CAMP ACTIVITIES

At Camp Suwannee we have a no phones policy for all campers, how can you enjoy the beauty of God's creation if you are on your phones? So we have activities all day everyday to keep them busy, most of our activities are outside but we offer a few indoor activities such as music, art, and indoor games. The highest activity that we offer is called the Rite of Passage in which Juniors and Seniors in high school are chosen by counselors to participate in an all day event that will challenge them and in the end give them an understanding of what a man and woman of God truly is. Our goals with many of our activities such as Fire Building, devotions, canoeing, and more are to prepare campers both boys and girls for the Rite of Passage. These activities are challenging and may take people outside of their comfort zone but what an amazing adventure it is to be defined as a man/woman of God.

CANOEING/TUBING

This is part of our swim time activities and everyone has a chance to canoe or tube the Suwannee river. It is both challenging and fun especially is you have never been before. Campers must wear a life vest and they must pass our swim test given on Sunday afternoon. Going down the Suwannee you might be lucky enough to see bass, and different types of fish and wild life.

ROPES COURSE

The ropes course class at camp can be an exciting and enriching experience for everyone involved. Our ropes course typically consists of a series of challenging physical activities or obstacles constructed using ropes, cables, and wood. These courses are designed to promote personal development, team building, and overcoming fears in a safe and controlled environment. At Camp Suwannee we have a low ropes course this helps the team to focus on teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Participants might engage in activities like balancing on ropes, navigating through obstacles, or completing tasks together. Through our ropes course campers can develop valuable skills, forge strong bonds with their peers, and have a memorable and rewarding experience at camp.

TEAM BUILDING

Team-building classes are interactive sessions designed to improve communication, collaboration, trust, and camaraderie among participants. These classes often include a variety of engaging activities and discussions tailored to the group's needs and goals. Through team building classes campers develop problem solving skills, trust in their peers, and create a memorable experience at camp.

Mastering Firecraft

At Camp Suwannee, we believe in equipping campers with essential survival skills while fostering a deep appreciation for nature. One such skill is the ancient art of fire building using flint and steel.

Flint and steel fire starting is a traditional method dating back centuries. It involves striking a piece of flint (a hard, sedimentary rock) with a piece of high-carbon steel, creating sparks that ignite tinder.

We also use this to talk about our walk with Christ. We compare everything you must do to build a fire to our walk with Christ.

At Camp, we offer hands-on workshops and outdoor adventures that inspire a love for Christ, nature, and cultivate valuable life skills. Join us to learn the art of firecraft and embark on a journey of discovery in the great outdoors.

HIKING

This is lead by a avid hiker and history buff, he will take them through the trails that surround Camp Suwannee and explain some the historic attributes such as the train tracks that used to run through the camp. It's a great experience and the campers really enjoy learning about camp history and more.

RITE OF PASSAGE

Do you remember the day that you were told you were an adult? Did you go through some kind of ritual? In many cultures there is a way that they know they are a man or a woman. I heard the story about a tribe who when the son becomes a young man the Father takes him out into the jungle and makes him sit on a rock blindfolded. He has to sit there all night and not remove the blindfold until he feel the sun hitting his face in the morning. In our culture we don't do anything like that but here a Camp Suwannee we believe that one of the things missing from our culture is a way to test and teach the youth what it means to be a man and woman of God.

The Rite of passage does just that, we take the juniors and seniors at camp and we test and teach them what it means to be a man and woman of God. Their will is going to be tested, and the big thing is they can't tell anyone what they experienced. It is a new thing but we want it to become a huge thing that they would look forward to.
